Linear Scale Advantages
When using linear scales for position detection of linear axes, no
additional mechanical transmission components need to be installed.
The linear scale is directly installed on the slide plate, and it
can collect the errors generated by mechanical transmission in real
time. These errors can be corrected through the control system. The
product is of an all-enclosed structure. The aluminum shell can
protect the grating, the scanning reading head and the guide rail,
and isolate dust, cutting debris and other contaminants. The
accompanying elastic sealing strips further enhance the sealing
performance of the shell.
Measurement Principle
The linear scale adopts the incremental measurement principle. The
ruler body is engraved with regularly spaced periodic grating
lines. The grating pitch (measurement step) is a fixed physical
dimension. The reading head counts the incremental number of lines
passed during the movement and multiplies it by the pitch to
calculate the total displacement, thereby obtaining the real-time
position. Incremental gratings cannot directly output absolute
coordinates. The count will be lost after power failure. Therefore,
a single reference line is specially processed on the scale body.
After the machine performs the zero-return operation and triggers
the reference point, the system can calibrate the coordinate
deviation, establish the mechanical origin, and eliminate the
cumulative counting error.
